Preferred Reading: If you agree with Katie Hopkins' views on this, you will share the intended reading, however you may also have the preferred reading if you simply like Katie Hopkins, and would watch this to see more of her opinions.

Oppositional Reading: If you disagree with Katie Hopkins' views on this, you will have an oppositional reading, however you may also have oppositional reading if you simply dislike Katie
Hopkins, and would be put of watching this due to knowing that.

Negotiated Reading: You may agree with the argument that Hopkins is making but also dislike her as a person, this would make you negotiated as you are unsure, and are weighing up whether or not you should watch this text, it may also go the other way, you could disagree with her argument, but like Hopkins as a person, once again giving you a negotiated reading.

One of the reasons that they went for the view on this text, is because politically right now, this view is becoming common, so the media is starting to speak about what people want to hear.

  1. Hi Will,

Some good ideas here, especially about the tricky subject of negotiated readings. I think you need more detail to your discussion of preferred reading. Try to elucidate what the audience who agree with Katie Hopkins might think? How do clips like this help shape people's ideas about immigration?
    Thanks
